My 3Com modem/router has been largely problem free (had one lockup in
a
year) and cost about fifty quid from Misco

It's this one:

but
I bought it on a deal that included a PCMCIA card and a USB Wifi stick too.

While on the subject I think someone also does an 8 port, wifi modem/router
now too...
