RE: [OT] Expired domain names
Hi Ho Yin,
I've done this once before with a .com domain that was registered with
godaddy.com and due to expire shortly.
I backordered the domain with godaddy in the understanding that, assuming
not renewed and no other interest in the domain, it would come my way at
the
end of the 35 day period (30 days redemption grace + 5 days pending
delete).
I think some registrars also hold the domain for a while before it goes
into
redemption.
Reality didn't turn out to be quite so simple! At the end of the pending
delete period, the registrar changed a couple of times in the space of a
few
days. I also received an email offering the domain at $200, I declined this
offer. A few more days passed and then the domain was back with godaddy and
successfully "captured" for my use.
It's possible that the domain passed through other registrars as I had
checked the status with a number of registrars (interesting to see the
differing results); if I were to do this again I'd probably stick to the
actual registrar only, unless the domain was likely to be in demand in
which
case the auction services may be the way to go.
Best regards,
Roger
