[ot] Recording VGA signal

Anyone come across a way of recording a VGA signal output from a PC?

I'm not interested in scan converters/scalers that allow recording to tape
- more like a raw recording of the VGA signal - a bit like camtasia screen
recording but done off of a VGA signal rather than on the PC itself. I'm
thinking something like a small PC with VGA INPUT that then allows
recording of that VGA signal.

I often need to record a screen but without interfering with the PC itself.
