Video quality for security - camera lines

Hi all

Thanks for the advice re: surveillance. I particularly liked Phil's idea
of land mines but this may not do the driveway any favours.

Anyway, having looked round I am now thinking of what cameras to get
assuming I get a DVR based system. I have found systems which include
cameras but the choices for outdoor cameras seem limited to 380 or 420 TV
lines. I have not been able to find examples of the output from these
anywhere. Does anyone have recommendations as to what spec camera to get.
I need external with night time IR and ideally available in different lens
specs giving different angles of view. Not a zoom camera as these are
silly prices.

I have not been able to find out if the extra resolution from say a 480 TV
lines camera over a 380 or 420 will look any different once recorded onto
the DVR. I am looking for facial recognition if the worst came to the
worst so detail may matter but only if it is recorded accurately.

The most widely available DVR seems to be the Avermedia AV760 as sold by
Henrys.co.uk and many others. This is networkable as I need this feature.
It is an expensive investment so I want to make sure as best I can that it
will make me happy and not frustrated.

Thoughts and advice welcome please.

Ian
