I need to get an AV receiver AMP for the Sonos/TV/Tivo/Xbox in the
living room to drive my 5.1 setup
Ideally I don't want to be turning the amp on each time I pick up the
Sonos/TV/Tivo remote so is it possible to get clever amps that will
wake-up when see an audio input turning on like from the Sonos etc.
Or am I talking rubish as there wouldn't there be much power consumed
with no audio on the line input, any ideas folks?
Andy

In a similar vein, I have my surround amp turn everything else on/off
(tv, cd player, dvd player, front speakers amp (an old audiolab - better
quality than the surround amp)), unfortunately via a relay (in an old
plugin timer case) because the surround amp switched output is limited
to 100W (and has no earth).
I have now also changed my media and remote access server (140W) to
hiberate itself (it doesn't support standby) at midnight and wake up at
6am so reducing it's running cost. I wanted to replace it with an energy
efficient Athlon X2 costing <150quid and taking <2years to pay for
itself (and being a fair bit faster) but we're super tight on cash at
the moment so it'll have to wait....

On the energy saving front I can recommend the electrisave. When you
realise how much the shower or the tumble dryer actually costs you do
moderate your usage quite a bit.
Also worth the money is the intelliplug
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.200-8371.aspx
You plug your tv or computer into the main socket and all the extra bits
DVD, Surround Sound, Printer etc into the other sockets when the
tv/computer goes off it turn everything else off too. Saving loads off
standby energy.
