I=92m no expert but my vote would be a Terrastation (in a fire safe ?)

=20

I have a 2TB model and it has been great=85=20=20

=20

As suggested by others a series of USB drives that could be used for
off-si=
te backups once a week=85 Depends how serious 1 weeks loss would be if the
=
place burnt down? Possibly locate main server and back-up in different
part=
s of the building connected by Gigabit Ethernet=85

Hi all

This is OT but I am sure is very relevant to us media storage junkies! I
am=
trying to help out a friend who wants to improve his back-up but I don't k=
now which way to take him. I'll try and explain his set-up:

- One server running SBS 2000
- Currently around 200gb of data and exchange folders
- One tape drive Travan 20/40
- One licensed copy of Backup Exec v9 SB Edition

Now obviously his tape drive cant backup all his data and because the
staff=
in this small office are email junkies he's not even backing up the entire=
Exchange store either onto a single tape.

He wants a 'single' one stop back-up solution that's fairly automated and
s=
imple. He just about manages to get his staff to put a fresh tape in each
d=
ay :-)

Almost ALL his data is design files and images and thus compressing the
dat=
a doesn't have a huge effect.=20

His data storage needs are likely to double in the next 12 months.=20

So should he look at one of the new generation 400/800gb tape drives or
sho=
uld he be looking at harddisc backup (Say to something like a
terastation.-=
)

Tapes have the huge advantage of being able to be taken off site thus
provi=
ding a more robust recovery solution.=20

Perhaps the solution is both?

Ta

Rob
