The Federal Court in Adelaide will today start hearing the case of the
Smart
Company Vs Clipsal where it will be alleged that Clipsal, which used to
trade as Gerrard Industries, stole proprietary automation technology from
the Smart Company that became a key part of the C-Bus home automation
system.

The interlocutory hearing before Justice Lander in the Federal Court comes
three years after the Smart Company a West Australian Technology Company
first took action against Clipsal.

The allegations against Clipsal are serious and if they lose the case they
could be up for millions in damages.

Since the case was first brought, Gerrard Industries which traded as
Clipsal
and was the developer of the C-Bus system has been sold to French
conglomerate Schneider Electric which is now faced with defending the
action...
