RE: Sky box questions
All boxes have RF in, RF1 & 2 out.
All have TV Scart out supporting RGB & VCR Scart in/out which allows
RGB
passthrough to TV Scart. Sky+ also has S-video and optical digital audio
outs. All boxes have stereo out.
Power for RF2 is switchable from the hidden installers menu. Go to services
and press 4 0 1 Select to access.
Talk of new networked Sky box using 4 dish feeds and distributing over
Cat5e.
All subsidised boxes need telephone line connecting for 12 months, all
=93multiroom=94 boxes have to stay permanently connected to the phone line.
Multiroom simply allows additional boxes to be installed in the same house
and to have independent viewing cards giving access to the same channel
package as the main account, costs =A310/month per additional box/card.
IR codes are different for standard boxes and Sky+/HD. There are also
interfaces from 3rd parties to change the IR codes on remotes and boxes so
that they signals are effectively routed, not used them myself so don=92t
k=
now
how well they work in practice.
Best use Sky+ and a PVR for easiest Sky recording to DVD =96 record to Sky+
first and then use the Copy function to archive to DVD using the VCR Scart
connection. Needs a DVD recorder that can record from analogue sources
though.

Subject: [ukha_d] Sky box questions
=20
I have never really met Sky but am now trying to advise someone doing=20
some major work on what cables they need where!
Do all Sky boxes have RF In, RF 1 Out and RF 2 Out?
What SCART IO do they have?
Do they all put the power for splitters and Skylinks onto RF 2 Out?
Do all boxes just need a single satellite down-feed except Sky+, which=20
needs two?
Do all Sky boxes need access to a telephone socket including 2nd/3rd=20
boxes?
Can their Ir remotes be switched to different codes so they don't=20
interfere with each other?
What DVD recorder or PVR setup do we need for effortless recording of=20
Sky? I'm going to suggest a Freeview PVR but there might occasionally=20
be something worth recording on Sky that isn't also on Freeview. And=20
the Humax 9200T can't record from an analogue source.
