I'll try the splitter first.  The 360 had a VGA issue where the black
reference level was too high.  A splitter here would have been a help!. 
The black reference level issue has now been fixed.

Any passive video splitter will result in video levels being reduced.

With an RGB (VGA = RGBHV) signal this will just result in a darker picture
which you may be able to overcome by increasing the brightness but passive
splitting of ANY video signal is not recommended.

The success or failure depends on the driving ability of the graphics card.
I have seen poblems driving single monitors over longish cables from some
laptops because their drivers werent as strong as proper graphics cards.

Keep the refresh rate as low as possible to minimise losses as higher
refresh rates are far more demanding.
