Orange Unique / Broadband / Mac

 >I've been thinking the same thing for about ten-years ...

Package that looks best for us is Orange Unique with Broadband ... they
say it's OK for Mac OX8.6 - OSX, which is what we have ... but it's also
said they don't support Mac OS & that it has to be set-up manually ...
whatever that means ... so - just wondered if anyone had done it, by any
chance, & how it went ??

>Well, apart from not being a phone, not having a swish UI and not
having a nice h/w design ... nice device, but in no shape or form is it
an iPhone killer ! It's very much still a geek device, like the Nokia
770, though perhaps it'll get slighty more market acceptance than the
'770 - which still isn't very much ... doesn't stop me wanting one
though ;)

>Interesting ... 'guess the thought was that VOIP would be enough ...
maybe I'm assuming VOIP is better than it is ??

It's OK - but rather dependent on finding a decent WiFi connection (and,
of course, you have to pay for the WiFi connection wherever you are, and
fiddle about getting the thing to actually logon to the network).

Aye ... actually, that seems to be a thing at the moment, about a lot of
things ... by which I mean, we're looking to update our landline,
mobile's, internet-connection, and PDAs ... the whole lot ... and one of
the conclusions I'm coming to, is that we're unlucky with our timing ...
in a year, there might be good solutions, but just now every option -
while having a lot of good things - has a major flaw ... everytime I
think I've found a solution, it turns-out to be a no-go ...

Looks perfect for sofa surfing ... currently having a debate with my
alter ego as to whether I should get one of these or an 'XP-based tablet
off eBay ...

I've been thinking the same thing for about ten-years ... there's no
point waiting - the perfect device is not just around the corner. Grab
a bunch of what is available now, and be prepared to apply a little xPL
/xAP / etc glue to achieve your goals. The day that the perfect HA
controller arrives, is the day this group will cease to exist !
