Well finally recovered about 120Gb of data.. Thanks all for the
pointers.
GetDataBack was the one I used in the end. Took a long time to run but
didn't require much of my time -:)
Like others I do seem to get roped into all sorts of PC support jobs. This
time it was returning a favour as I had been given access to over 60Gb of
MP3's (that's a lot of music! - most of which I hadn't got... Not sure I
needed every Rolling Stones album ever recorded though).
And the good news is that he has already bought some backup disks!!

Trying to help a friend and recover his crashed NTFS disk (mostly pictures
and MP3's - I did tell him to back them up!!).
I've found a demo version of this that seems to identify most of his
missing
files HYPERLINK "http://www.recover4all.com/
but"http://www.recover4all.com/
.
Any other suggestions for what I can try (either free or cheaper) before I
try and convince him to part with $69 for the full version (another program
I tried said that the MFT and its mirror were bad).
TIA
John
