Re: Re: 1-Wire advice please

    Just for info there is a xAP/xPL embedded controller for 1-wire
about to become available as well. In fact I'm currently playing with a
beta unit here. The opnode opn-one allows your 1-wire devices to
constantly supply sensor update information over Ethernet and the 1-wire
output devices to be controlled too. It has an embedded web server
(telnet and FTP too) and operates totally independently of any PC and
rather unusually includes a small logic engine that will action
conditions on 1-wire automatically eg if temp below 5 degrees then
switch the heating on. When coupled with some graphic display software
like the free xAP Floorplan (or xAPDesktop) then you can design your
own front end for your system viewable from any web browser , and it
updates in real time with no browser refreshes required as it uses
AJAX. xAP FloorPlan also includes a fully scriptable automation engine
too using VB script to interact with any xAP capable device, or
application and James has just added drag and drop graphic editing from
within the browser... great stuff.

It's also rather interesting to see the LCD support within 1-wire on
the hobby boards site - I'm fairly sure that's not supported by opn-one
but if it could be it could create a useful control interaction - all
embedded ... I'll mention it to Daniel (the designer).

I'm rather pleased we now have 5 xAP embedded controllers announced
, three of them commercial.... (xAP Netiom, xAP HomeVision , xAP C-Bus,
opn-one, opn-232) which is panning out as a nice family of useful HA
devices. The opnone is even an international one, from Spain - xAP goes
global ;-). There are a few others in the works too, maybe even some
IanB ones lurking...Offering 1-wire is rather opportune given this
thread .

The opn-232 will offer many personalities (different firmware)
allowing a selection of RS232 serial devices to be xAP enabled - I
believe X10 via a CM11/12 is going to be the the first offering
...several others are mentioned on the site. Oh...and in the spirit of
a free xAP world all the opnnodes code will be GPL'd allowing
enthusiasts to adapt and modify for their own specific needs and
devices should they want :-)

pricing still to be finalised
(the site seems really slow today for some reason....)

Example xAP message from a 1-wire DS18B20 temp sensor..

source=opnode.opnone.1wire:Outside.Courtyard
}
