Thanks Neil, will have a read of that in a wee bit...

Trouble is though, for my money, there *isn't* really a serious
competitor to $sky..

Freeview just doesn't have the channels.
I live in an NTL cable area and I've had their TV service, and that
didn't compete either... that was a few years ago admittedly, but my
parents just had NTL cable TV installed in the last couple of months,
and it still doesn't match what $ky do in terms of channels &
features...
