Peter,

Your easiest route is probably port forwarding=85
=20
Webservers are on port 80 by default but you can http to =91other=92 ports.
=20
Depending on your router you should be able to do port forwarding.
=20
As an example you would forward external requests on specified port, say
10=
0, to an internal IP address at port 80.
=20
That way you could =91Port Forward=92 from outside your network to your
=91=
TiVo=92 inside your network.
=20
This does open problems of security though as you rely on the TiVo
webserve=
r to authenticate and manage this=85
=20
A more professional approach would be to use a proxy server or route on
Hos=
t Headers using something like MS ISA.
=20
An issue with port forwarding is that some IT Departments restrict you
usin=
g =91other=92 ports so your server on port 100 my not be accessible from
so=
meone else=92s network=85
=20
If you search on some of these terms things should become clearer.

This is slightly more on-topic....
As I've now got a fixed IP, and a few things I want to see when away from
home (Homeseer, Digiguide, IP cams, TiVo etc), I want to host a simple
website direct from my HA server (XP), with just a few pages and links off
to the other bits and pieces. What would be the easiest way to do this? I
did download and install Apache, but I am a proper novice at this, and I
can't see a way of implementing standard username/password security, yet
alone anything more complicated. I can use FrontPage (if I have to), but as
I say, I don't want anything fancy (no Dreamweaver here!), just access to a
few local services.
The key here is simplicity, so even though I know you want to, please don't
recommend I ditch XP and use a Linux webserver!
Thanks, Pete
