I have just tried a B version here on a 'pre final' version 3.5 ROM
which is the latest I have to hand and it doesn't work .  I think Ian is
maybe referring to the S versions below

"The 3.43 PROM changed the digital temperature sensor reading to work
with the new, slower DS18S20 sensors."
