The Wii is not HD, the typical setting is 576i, if you use the
component you can set it to 480p.

The graphics to be fair are not the Wii's best feature. I use a 32"
LCD but I have seen them on everything from a 14" CRT up.

The one thing I would say is get plenty of space between you and the
screen, my sister's 5 yr old kept punching her 36" CRT while doing the
boxing, a habit he needing curing of before she bought her LCD.
