GPIO ... General Purpose Input / Output ... not sure there is a
standard for it, but it's usually provided for switching things on &
off ... in this case, for switching things like lamps, so the camera
can give a better image, motors, alarms, etc, with prompting by
switches, trips, motion-detectors, etc ...

our board (an IVC-200G) can deal with four cameras, and has four GPIO
inputs & four GPIO outputs ... more detail here :
