always! money no object, I'd have a mini data centre with an EMC
Clariion and some blade servers ;)

kinda...
the Q6600 Intel proc is one of the newer generation of more power
sensitive CPUs - one of the warnings I have read about them is to not
assume that there is a failure if the fan stops spinning, as it's
quite normal fort he heat production (and therefore wasted energy) to
be low enough that the CPU cooler idles down to zero.

to be honest, that's why I ended up where I am - at every performance
point, there's a set of compromises, and I have opted for one box
with a lot more headroom rather than run multiple smaller machines.
Ultimately, I would love to see the new super materials and lower
micron processes used to make a newer generation of really cool (in
the thermal sense) and low power systems that still have the headroom
to be useful!!
to be brutally honest, I have considered deploying some of my older
kit with Ubuntu rather than XP, as step for step it performs better
on the older kit... the only problem is a small number of apps that
do not work at all on Ubuntu, even under VM or Wine.
I have great hopes for the new generation of small form factor
devices (the grunt that the eee PC has is one cool example), but for
now I think the best platform is a single slightly more ballsy box
rather than a few smaller devices...
