Jim,

Interesting to know the Synology unit is quiet. I bought a 'cheap and
cheerful' diskless NAS unit from CPC and shoved in a couple of 500Gb disks.
The unit works well enough, SMB, NFS, FTP, RAID 0,1, etc but is very noisy
(fan etc).

Now that I have decided that 'I need a NAS' I am looking to replace this
with something better. The Synology DS207 is on the list, as is the DLink
DNS-323. The main criteria is it has to be quiet.
