I haven't had problems due to Windows that I can remomber. I have a
machine
dedicated to Cortex running on XP Pro. Only additional software is
anti-virus and screenshot program plus the weather station software. I have
left it for months at a time untouched. I used to run on a miniITX board
quite happily, but upgraded to start using motion detection on CCTV
cameras.

All access to the machine via RDP and VNC. From a Mac.

I don't like Microsoft due to monopolistic practices and Windows "bit
rot".
But despite that, I put up with it to run Cortex, because it's worth it.
