The liquid in UPS batteries will crystalize if they are left in a
fully
discharged state, causing the battery to physically expand and bulge
out. Once this has occured in the battery, it cannot be reversed.
Sounds like you will definetely need a new battery and the UPS will be
fine. Also, I think I recall with my APC UPSs that with a completely
dead battery, you cannot get them to start up even when they are
plugged into the utility power.
Why this would occur in only two weeks of being unplugged I cannot
explain. Usually, this is something seen in batteries that are left
discharged for 6 months...
