Re: [OT] UPS Woes

The liquid in UPS batteries will crystalize if they are left in a
fully
discharged state, causing the battery to physically expand and bulge
out. Once this has occured in the battery, it cannot be reversed.

Sounds like you will definetely need a new battery and the UPS will be
fine. Also, I think I recall with my APC UPSs that with a completely
dead battery, you cannot get them to start up even when they are
plugged into the utility power.

Why this would occur in only two weeks of being unplugged I cannot
explain. Usually, this is something seen in batteries that are left
discharged for 6 months...

SmartUPS 650 unplugged for a couple of weeks whilst on holiday - On
return it wouldn't spark up., I have just taken the battery out (it
was completely Fubarred and a bit distorted) but the UPS won't even
power up without it. Is the UPS totally gash now? Is there any way I
can test it? I don't want to buy a new battery for it, only to find
the thing is gash anyway. Is it time to speak to Andy and get a new
one?
