SATA / SATA2 ?

Need to buy a new drive for this Dell with the failing one.

Everything seems to be "SATA2" now, I assume this is backward
compatible
with my SATA controller?

It's just a desktop machine but will be running Vista, are there any of
these hybrid drives out yet that are supposed to improve Vista performance?
