Hmm this is very interesting,
Firstly can I ask how people are measuing the power consumption of
individual items?!

Secondly - If I was to use an X10 applicance module plugged into a
socket with something plugged into it,would that use zero electricity
whilst the units off? or is the fact that the x10 applicance module is
listening for a signal means its going to be drawing some power?

I would like to go down the road of having applicance modules or
similar on all standby devices.  At the moment I have one appliance
module then a four way extension lead into that which switches my tv,
xbox, dvd player etc, then i have another applicance module with my
airport express and amplifier plugged into that.

....when i say appliance modules i actually mean the ones with the
aerial on that pick up the signal from the remotes and put it onto the
powerline, but i intend to get some more proper appliance modules.

Was planning to start having my media server on 24/7 but was concerned
about the electricity, this topics enough to discourage me so might be
time to just get a NAS for the stuff I do need...'almost' all the time
and just put the media server on when i want to watch films!
