This is pretty much the way I did it but with a USB KVM extender and
they are more expensive than the serial ones.  Bit of a mistake as it
turned out that the USB part would only carry keyboard/mouse and
wouldnt work with a touchscreen.  So I had to add one of these:

(This is a more up to date one with 4 ports. Mine had one port but was
same price).

Doing it again I'd probably try one of these for the vga instead:

However, if your touchscreen is serial not usb I have a feeling that
you can simply extend a serial cable by quite a long way (50m???)
without too many probs. It could probably be done using cat5 too
wiring into a serial plug.  Might be worth a try or someone else may
have better info.

Then you would only need the vga extender.
