DV Camcorder as Webcam via Firewire

  • Subject: DV Camcorder as Webcam via Firewire

I'm convinced that I asked about this a while ago yet despite
searching the archives I can't find the specific post...

What I wanted to do was as the title suggests - use my existing mini
DV camcorder as a webcam via the Firewire port. At the time there were
only paid-for solutions, but now I have discovered a free utility that
will do it. It's called SplitCam and is available for download from:
http://www.splitcamera.com

Quoting:
"SplitCamera is a freeware virtual video clone and split video capture
driver for connecting several applications to a single video capture
source."

It includes the facility to use a camcorder as a streaming webcam, so
now I can enjoy video calls with family & friends.

The video-clone feature may be useful to others too.

I've no connection to these guys, other than finding it a useful bit
of freeware that I thought would be worth sharing. The only limitation
I can see is that it is Windows-only.

Cheers,

Tim.
