...as a follow-up to part of my own post, I have set WiFiFoFum to
Autolog t=
o a file on the SDCard and its seems to cope MUCH better. Driving into
work=
this morning it found 132 hotspots and didn't seem to slow the machine dow=
n at all. The file on the SD card is only 190KB.

Since a few people have now had the T-Mobile VarioII for a while, how do
yo=
u find it speed wise ?

The reason I ask is that I currently have a DELL AXIM X51v PDA (no phone
on=
it.. currently just use a cheap PayYGo..last YEAR I only spent =A310 on ca=
lls! ) that I use mainly for TomTom. Previously I had a DELL AXIM X5 and
wh=
en I upgraded found I found the newer X51v much slower than the X5 even
tho=
ugh it has a faster processor (624mhz). It would seem that this is mainly
d=
ue to WindowsMobile 5 and its use of slower persistent memory. At first
the=
X51v was really slow with TomTom (i.e. press the screen and it would take =
1 or 2 seconds for the TomTom options screen to appear), after upgrading
th=
e ROM Firmware from A06 to A12 it has been much quicker (although still
not=
as responsive as the older X5). TomTom is now useable on it BUT I can't re=
ally run other things as well at the same time. On the X5 I used to run
Tom=
Tom and CheckPoint (for speed cameras etc) and WiFiFoFum (logging hotspots
=
as I drove around..). On the X51v running WiFiFoFum starts off OK but
after=
around 35 access points logged it brings the machine to a crawl. Same with=
running TomTom and Checkpoint .. it really slows it down.

I would love to have a PDA and phone in one and the Web&Walk tarrif
would b=
e a godsend for surfing while on customer site or at hotels (no more
missin=
g a bargain on eBay:-)), but given its also running WM5 and has a slower
pr=
ocessor I'm loath to pay out >=A3400 (in total including tariff... the
X51v=
only cost me =A3170 delivered) for something that just isn't going to be u=
seful.
