I generally use the reference client, btdownloadcurses running within
screen for this, so that my desktop doesn't have to be on.
Unfortunately, it's less than featureful, and some trackers (which work
fine with Azureus) turn their nose up at it, so if anyone knows a better
console-based (or perhaps web-based, if such a beast exists) client for
Linux, then I'd be interested to know.

Sure, on a *nix system, the ever-useful 'screen' terminal multiplexer
utility can be used to run any console application without a terminal
being attached.  I guess the closest equivalent under Windows would be
to use VNC or something, though for bittorrent only a client with a web
or telnet interface would be simpler.
