RE: [OT] Web n Walk T-Mobile

And there never will be, unless there's a major sea change in FOSS
attitudes.

Because any time this discussion pops up on contribs.org (or anywhere else
for that matter), the penguin zealots will refuse to acknowledge/understand
that despite their general bitching about Microsoft, Exchange/Outlook is an
absolutely fantastic mail system.

All you ever hear from the Linux crowd is "why would anyone want
shared
calendaring", "you should use this web client instead",
"outlook sucks" and
so on.

Email is the absolute killer app, and Exchange 2K3 with outlook is pretty
much the definitive solution at this point - nothing else comes close.

I dual boot Ubuntu 6.06, and Evolution is nice, but it's still clunky -
it's
up to the level of Outlook 97. Problem is, it's not 1997 any more. and even
then there's no comparable back end server.

It's one of those things - it would be great to have a strong open source
contender with Exchange - but for now it's a complete pipe dream.

Ian.

Oh I wish ... I'm running SME Server and don't want to migrate to
Exchange. A month ago on the contribs.org forums I asked if there was a
Push Email solution, but with 243 views and zero replies it's not
looking to promising...

surely someone by now has written some sort of proxy which would
intercept the emails coming in to your non exchange server and pushing
it out using the same sort of protocol as the exhange server does (so
the reciving end understands it)?

(of course i'm just about to look up and see how the protocol works...)
