Have to say , my BMW system is damn fast - much faster than tomtom.
Even
with the perspective birds-eye view on. And it has speed cameras etc on
it. (you can mod the data disc) - even mod the startup screens :-)

But you expect that for the price !

try Audi RNS-6. You can get them fairly cheap on eb*y. We put a double
DIN sized Audi A6 radio (non-Nav) into an Audi A3 with some fiddeling,
but it is perfectly doable. But, having said that, the newer portable
once are MUCH faster.
