What bedside clock for a HA-er?
Now that I have more or less expunged X10 from my home, I no longer
need
the X10 mini-timer as my bedside clock, so I'm looking for a
"suitable"
replacement..
What's "suitable" ??
Well, clearly for a seasoned HAer it can't possibly be just a normal
bedside clock from Argos can it?... - it must have some additional
whiz-bang functions, such as weather monitoring, or Ethernet
connectivity or the like. Also, it clearly has to look like it was just
"nicked" out of a space shuttle....
So what is the groups' recommendation?
I've looked at a couple from Oregon Scientific which are weather
stations, and I've also looked at some flash ones from Jacob Jensen,
either of which tick some of the right boxes... - but everything I've
found so far is a standalone closed product... - is there anything I can
integrate with the rest of the HA system, a CBUS clock for example? -
perhaps one of the Comfort companion touchscreens or maybe a CTOUCH
Panel... - both of these touchsreen options are relatively expensive
however, so it might be a bit of a big ask to get one of these past
"expenditure control"... :-) - plus how well do these items
actually
work as a bedside alarm clock?
Here's a list of a few ideas that I think would be really great...
Addressable display, so I can display messages from other HA systems on
it
Able to interface with either Comfort, CBUS or Homeseer (so a web
interface would be OK)
Ethernet connectivity, built-in webserver
NOT a nano-ITX PC based solution - too noisy and/or unreliable
An off the shelf product would be preferable, although a small element
of DIY would be OK
I don't care about it being a radio of any kind, either FM or DAB, nor
do I require it to have any kind of inbuilt media playing ability, but
if it was able to play audio announcements from a HA system, that would
be pretty good (i.e. TTS from Homeseer: "Wake up Paul, you lazy
********")
Freestanding tabletop form factor is preferable, since I don't have a
lot of nearby wall space left....
Ability to show CCTV feeds would be nice
Note that I already have a Comfort KP04, and a CBUS NEO switch by the
bedside...
Cheers.
