Re: Re: Which NAS Box?

I use one of these with a pair of 250gig drives.
Only problem is that I have is that I want to turn off the unit overnight
-=
=20
as the drives don't spin down when idle. I connected a 24 hour socket
timer=
=20
but the slug won't power on until the front buton is pressed.
There is a hardware mod
http://www.nslu2-Linux.org/wiki/HowTo/ForcePowerAlwaysOn
but I've not found the component required online ... not that I've tried
to=
o=20
hard :-(
(I was going to try the 1st. mod as the non-mod wasn't there when I last=20
looked)

One thing to be aware of......

I lost one drive full of data (had to reformat it) when I was copying to
th=
e=20
slug and it powered down halfway through copying as I'd set a time to=20
powerdown in the bios .. before I realised it didn't then repower up. I=20
wouldn't use this option again !!. Also although it still pings OK.. the
we=
b=20
front end GUI (normal linksys firmware) does tend to crash about once a=20
week - so you lose the shares and so I need to perform a fundamental
primar=
y=20
reset on the unit (turn it off and on again to you and me)
