I'm back!  Upgrading the router firmware did the trick, though it took
a
few goes to get the right settings, and now if you save the config on
the router, it won't connect to the 'net until you run the configuration
tool again - don't have to re-configure anything, just run the tool and
it springs back to life.  Programmers?  Bunch of tarts.

Thanks to Iain for spotting the router issue, I'd searched the f2s site
a thousand times and I think the note about the router only appeared
either yesterday or today. I'm still well peeved about the complete
absence of any support, so will probably change anyway.
