Can you mount them in the ceiling void and just sink a short length of
trunking down to behind the screen?

I'd be a little concerned about chipping out too much from one place,
'cos you also want the bolts holding the plasma to the wall to stay in
place too!

Putting it in the celing void gives a bit more space for heat to
circulate and also will probably give better access to the units too.
