Subject: [ukha_d] Big Screens & HD Content
I'm still using a 28" CRT at home, so I was surprised when my mum
asked for help choosing a large screen LCD/Plasma! We went shopping, and
she now has a nice 40" LCD with built-in Freeview. She's exceedingly
chuffed with her new purchase, but after the initial "Big screen?
Cool!" moment, I couldn't stand to look at it. The quality of the
display was appauling. Every artifact of the Freeview transmission was
clearly visible. It's not very noticable on my 28" CRT. I'm
certainly not going for a larger screen until I have HD content to display
on it!
So, this leads me to my question. Where can I get HD content? I'm sure
there's some that I could download for playing about with, but is any
terrestrial TV available as an HD stream? Nearly everything I watch is on
BBC1/2, ITV, and Ch4, so if I could get that in HD quality, I'd consider
moving to a larger screen. I believe Sky and Teleworst are going to start
HD content soon, but it won't be available on Freeview until they switch
off the analogue broadcasts in 2012. Does anyone know timescales, or of
another source? Am I best sticking with my 28" CRT? Especially when
I factor in my Toppy box, which won't support HD, as it has no connectivity
that supports it.
Cheers,
Andy
