Re: [OT] Anyone interested Pinball ??

Hi Guys

One of the xPL Developers Gerry Duprey has a MAME ...??? He,s also the
deve=
loper of the RGBLED Project and has installed some RGBLEDS on the
MAME....=
.Below is a copy from a post on the RGBLED Forum.......The content is in
r=
elation to what people were using their RGBLED Boards for...

I've deployed two boards in my MAME cabinet. For those not familiar, MAME =
is a Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator and allows you to play (well, for
me)=
all the old games from the 70s and 80s like Tempest, Donkey Kong, Galaga, =
etc.=20

Anyway, the standup cabinet has 5 player buttons, two side
"flipper" button=
s, player 1 and player 2 buttons, a pause button and on the front a free
cr=
edit button as well as a game reset and exit. All buttons are lit with
RGBL=
EDs via the controller.=20

When the cabinet is not in use, all the buttons flash different colors at
d=
ifferent rates in an "attract" mode (I just like blinkey lights)
When in us=
e, the lights indicate which control to use (trackball, joy stick (4-way
or=
8-way -- lights tell you if it's set right for the game you are playing) o=
r the spinner and which buttons work (unused buttons are not lit and used
b=
uttons are lit to color the button whatever color the original game
machine=
used for that function (i.e. some games, the fire button was red, others w=
ere white).=20

Unfortunatly, every picture I try to take of this fails pretty badly.
Since=
the lighting is low, I try to take the pic without a flash. But then the c=
amera adjusts and the result is that the buttons all look lit, but the
colo=
r is either washed out or missing.=20

I'll keep trying.=20

If I get the mRGBLED stuff done this weekend, I'll finally be refitting my
=
garden lights. I finally received a new compiler last night that appears
to=
have the bug fixed.=20

Yep - definately not cheap - paid =A3650.00 for my table - supposed to be=
a
40th birthday present to myself....

So far i've bought polishes, lamps, rubbers, switches - but i must admit =
its
good fun fiddling.

A colleague of mine is very much into pinball and lovingly restores old=20
machines. Fortunately he also brings them into the office so we get a=20
steady stream of perfectly maintained tables coming through. Most days=20
you hear the rumble and screech of the machines starting up at 5 or so.=20
I don't know how people manage to work in offices without a pinball=20
machine to wind you up at the end of the day!

It is not a cheap hobby though, even a knackered machine will costs you=20
hundreds, and they take a lot of day to day maintenance. Just one messed=
=20
up Martian or crocked Troll can set you back =A340 or =A350 quid and some=
=20
other parts cost a lot more.
