The other thing you shouldn't do with it (as I found out) is to use it
exclusively for hanging a large backdrop from an old listed hotel room
ceiling - as when removed, it tends to take most of the plaster with it!

Do a search for "Gaffa"

I remember in their 1979 catalogue they listed one of the uses as
"repairing
Levis" :)

Genuine Gaffa tape will stick to anything and be removed quite easily.*

As people have mentioned in most cases it leaves no residue but prolonged
use can leave remnants behind.

* There is one thing that Gaffa tape cannot be removed from.... Gaffa tape
!!!
Stick it to itself and it is virtually impossible to get apart, hence the
Levis reference. One piece in the inside of the hole, one on the outside =
permanent repair.
