Keith,
I never actually got to drive one of those wonderful vans, sat in the
passenger seat a few times... Being as I was working in City (of London)
area we used to walk everywhere.
Some years later when I was on the Channel Tunnel project one of my guys,
an Ex-Pat from Regina Canada, bought a Commer van camper and drove his
family all over Europe getting as far as Malaga and parts of Italy just by
taking long weekends... His idea of distance and mine where very different,
apparently Canada can do that to you...
I do remember the Vans being very poorly made and towards the end I think
the PO / BT where the only people buying them. Even the dashboard looked
homebrew with none of the switches or dials matching...

That van was barely roadworthy then, I doubt it lasted more than another 12
months.
I wonder how many Commer (or the later Dodge) Spacevans still exist ?
There were thousands of them around when I started with the Post Office.
