I use Toppy (http://www.toppy.org.uk), which has a
USB interface.  I
believe that some NAS devices can run the Toppy client software (shame
it uses a proprietry mechanism).  I'd suggest having a read through the
Toppy website though.  It's very flexible.  It's the only device other
than Tivo that can do season passes on Freeview, AFAIK.  It does it in
much better quality too (no A/D conversion).
