Video quality of MCE with Hauppauge 150's

I have an MCE box and the things that have stopped me using it are:
Video lag of about 10 seconds and thus useless if you are using a separate
AMP.
Video quality being very poor compaired with composite into my television.
Does anyone know of a fix?
Pluses:
MyMovies
xAP callerID and e-mail alerts.
So the PC now resides in it's box under the bed, any help would be
appreciated.
