Sorry to be the sceptic but I'm afraid I'm not convinced ;-) I've
looked around at the KX forums and the documentation and I think there
are a few points that indicate that only 5.1 is supported at present:
- I 'believe' that the 0/1 output is actually the '5.1 output'. Feed
stereo into it and it comes out of the front l/r channels (same as the
4/5 output). I've done this myself. The documentation indicates that
this 0/1 channel has more complex processing applied and can
mix/surround to the rear channels using this output. (I put 5.1 in '
' here as I'm notsure whether a 5.1 feed to 0/1 gets you 5.1 out or
whether its the synthetic processing of the surrounder function that
gives you a sort of pro-logic like surround feature on the other
speakers. I haven't tried and don't intend to!)
- On my driver (the 3537 version released in Feb 04 and the one on the
download section) I can only get 5.1 in the speaker setup - there is
no 6.1 / 7.1 option.
- On the forums there is an announcement by the author of a beta 3538
release (which you can download from there). The change log says that
this version 'introduces 6.1 / 7/1' support.
- I haven't been able to find anyone claiming to actually have 4
stereo working on their setup. All the discussions seem to be
theoretical speculation.
So... to continue the speculation... I think it may need someone to
try out the 3538 driver with a 'special' 7.1 cable. I'm afraid it's
not going to be me though as I don't need that 4th zone (being happy
with 2 x 3 zones).
Happy to be proved wrong though.
However... What I'm still trying to work out is how to output to all 3
stereo channels simultaneously. I use TTS and at the moment it only
announces in the kitchen (i.e. on the 4/5 KX 'soundcard'). I'd really
like it to announce using all 3 (i.e. 4/5 + 6/7 + 8/9). I'd hoped
that using 0/1 would multiplex to all 3 stereo channels but, as noted
above, it just comes out of the front l/r (i.e 4/5). Any bright ideas
on this one?
Regards
Richard
