Netgear SC101 - A tiny problem

I bought one of these a couple of months ago and have been broadly
pleased - pretty slow and pretty hot but cheap, convenient and ideal for my
purposes. One problem is that I can't connect to the NAS drives via VPN -
This is not a killer problem, but I had considered "loaning"
100Gb of my NAS to a mate in return for a reciprocal 100Gb of his SC101 NAS
- the plan was then to create an offsite backup location and solve all my
data storage problems.

Having Googled this it appears I am not alone - can any NAS be used like
this? Could the SC101 in the future via a software upgrade? Any ideas how
I might be able to do it now?

So near and yet so far...

Tim.
