Nice idea the snaptoggles - hadn't occurred to me. The thing is I'm
waiting
to move into the house so don't know for sure if it is plasterboard or
solid
(it's external but might have insulation then plasterboard). My mind is
just racing with tons of ideas...

Cheers,
Pedro

You mean the Ikea type, with the metal bar screwed to the wall and the
shelf
slides onto the 2 prongs?

If so, we've never had a problem...when we were building the house we had
to
live out of a tiny room in my wife's ma & pa's house, so everything was
pretty much attached to the (solid) wall. Didn't have TiVo on the shelf,
but did have a 23" LCD TV, freeview box, couple of Gale speakers,
assorted
junk and various books/mags. For a bit more stability Ikea do a nice
shelf-end bracket in a nickel colour, which is sort or a T-shape, with the
'top' of the T being fixed to the wall with 2 screws. It's still fairly
minimal, but not non-existent like the floating shelves.

If going into a plasterboard wall I'd use Snaptoggles (or similar) to make
sure there's no chance of pulling the plug out the wall through excessive
loading.

Pete

Subject: [ukha_d] [OT] Floating shelves

Hi All,

Has anyone used a "floating shelf" for anything other than
ornaments? What
I am thinking of is putting my tivo and other components on them but wanted
to know if someone has tried and failed or succeeded?

Any help appreciated.

Cheers,
Pedro
