Sorry for the OT post but I have just been told a tale that doesn't really
add up.

My brother is a QS for NHBC and they had a meeting at a hotel. During the
night 4 cars in the carpark were broken into - all contained laptops locked
in the boot. Other identical cars without laptops were ignored. The
police
attended and claimed that thieves have a device that can "scan"
for
electrical equipment - even when turned off. This sounded bogus to me -
especially when you consider the fact that the boot of a saloon car is
almost a Faraday cage.

Is this an urban myth and explained by a bunch of youths watching the
arrival with binos etc.

Any ideas welcome.

Tim.
