RE: GU10 LED vs GU10 halogen

I've got around 80 GU10 downlighers, with a mix of el-cheapo Screwfix,
el-cheapo eBay, Osram standard, and Osram Xenon+ (or something like that).
I've yet to find the 10000 hour bulbs that others mention, but I'll have a
look.

So far (after about 2 months) I've lost 12 bulbs, of which all bar one were
of the el cheapo variety. I have a habit of knocking the bulbs with the
ladders/skirting boards/whatever, which for the cheapo ones results in them
going 'super-nova' for a couple of days, and casting a much nicer white
light (more akin to the 12v halogens, which are whiter). Unfortunately,
they blow fairly soon after.

I've also got some LED GU10s fitted which I've accumulated over the past
year from various places to see whether they can replace the halogens -
regrettably not. Nowhere near as bring (even the 28-LED versions, which
are
brighter, but ugly, looks like the kid from school with too many teeth in
his mouth), and the beam is much narrower. That said, they still have
their
place, and as most my rooms have wall uplighters anyway, I hope to
eventually migrate around half the GU10s to LED, as they look much smarter,
and I quite like the colour of the light. In the mean time I'll use a
combo
of normal halogens, and some coloured ones in feature areas to make then a
bit more interesting.

As an aside, I've just finished the front door 'area', and used a mix of a
white LED over the slate house name, and then 2 up 'n' down lighters each
side of the door, with white halogen bulbs in the down bit, and blue bulbs
in the top - it looks really effective. A picture would, of course, paint
a
thousand words, but were moving in this weekend, and the camera is AWOL.

Hi all,

I seem to be replacing the GU10's in my kitchen on a weekly basis (8 in
total) and am considering replacing them with their LED based equivalents.
Yes, the price is 10 times more, but if they are infallible then it is a
small price to pay. Before I hit the CC, does anyone have any experience
with them, positive or negative?
