Chris,

FO has been given as the panacea for everything in the future but hasn't
re=
ally been adopted by manufacturers because of the high cost when compared
w=
ith cable. When you can buy 305 metres of CAT5e for circa =A330 and need
no=
'special' tools or training to terminate then it will be a while before FO=
comes into its own...

An empty conduit will allow that FO to be installed in the future. Even
wit=
hin the FO world there are several types and materials so it would be
diffi=
cult to predict which one will be adopted for the Domestic environment.

I think it is quite telling that if you want to extend the latest Media
Int=
erface (HDMI) it is done with two CAT5e cables, the i/f will cost you just
=
under =A3400 though...

Nigel -

thanks .... there's lots to think about !

'wonder what cable would be required for digital video distribution ...=20
what would have enough bandwidth to cover future possibilities ... I=20
suppose teh answer could be fibre optic ... ie: an empty conduit, for now ?

Chris
