tivo will only work as a very dumb terminal without the subscription,
i.e. you will only have standard VCR style time and date recordings,
no EPG, no guide function, no season passes nothing!!
and it's a pretty chunky unit, not horrendously so but a good inch or
so higher than your average vcr
