You're right.  The Porsche 911 Turbo, Lotus Esprit Turbo, and Ferrari
208 Turbo are all just a little short of being a proper sports car.  I
think the VX220 turbo hits the mark though ;-)

...and the engine chopped in 3?  With a 2.2L limit, clearly the way to a
nippy motor is something turbocharged ... Or an S2000.
