Yep, I've got one (also for the wife) and it's a brilliant device.
I've also
compared it to using a PDA + TomTom software, and there really is no
competition - TomTom One wins hands down.

Chaps,

I'm thinking of getting the wife a sat nav box, but as she won't be
using it that much, I don't want to spend too much on it (save that for
new toys for myself!). Having looked through Tom Toms website, there
doesn't seem to be much difference between the One and the 300 apart
from the One has faster CPU and the 300 has a soft case. Is this
correct? Anyone with any experience of using the TTOne? Any gotchas or
problems?
