Hi Gareth

A "simple" VGA connection cant normally cause such problems but
as I
understand it, these screens use an adapter cable where all connections are
routed through a single connector for ease of connection/disconnection (and
the fact that having seperate connectors would take up too much space)

Because of that, it does give rise to the possibility that a fault in the
assembly of that connector could feed power back down the VGA connection
which could well be what happened.

Having said that, the fact that the monitor had also sustained physical
damage (you said bits were floating about inside and the screen was on the
wonk), it could also have been a screw shorting something out on the PCB
internally.

IF I had wanted to "test" it out, I would first have looked
inside just to
see what obvious damge there was and then used a decrepid PC to test rather
than a brand new one !!!

I think it is grossly unfair to place all the blame on the faulty screen
when it was obvious from the start that it wasnt 100% as it should have
been. Just dont make the same mistake again !!!!

Regards

Keith
