Depending on the sub you might want both.

This can allow you to establish different settings for music and movies
without having to constantly re-calibrate.

ie music can be a subtle and controlled setting, using a full range
output via speaker cables, to add depth, whereas for the more dynamic
requirements of a movie soundtrack you still get the 'music' performance
PLUS the dedicated .1 LFE channel via a phono cable.

Some subs will allow you to do this and some won't.

Subject: [ukha_d] Can I use speaker cable for an subwoofer?

Hi all

I'm in the process of cabling my lounge before it is plasterboarded
next week.

I'm using high quality speaker cable for the front, centre and
surround channels. Will there be any problems if I use this speaker
cable to feed the line level signal to the subwoofer (approx 16ft
cable length required)? Or do I need to use dedicated phono cable?

Thanks!
Tom
